The Computer Based Honors Program (CBHP) is focused on developing highly capable students to become proficient in the use of computers applied to research projects. These intelligent, self-motivated, hardworking students are committed to excellence in both their academic and extracurricular endeavors. The mean ACT score for the incoming freshman class is a 33 with scores ranging from 28-36. The students' major(s) also span a wide range of academic disciplines and colleges across campus.
During their freshman year, students complete an intensive series of courses on the use of computers, project management and research fundamentals. These essential skills enable students to quickly learn and adapt to new environments required for faculty-directed research projects. Throughout their sophomore to senior years the CBHP students will select a project to work on as a computer-oriented research assistant with a faculty member who will act as a project director. Students will typically work on projects in areas related to their academic discipline; however, they may elect to work in an unrelated field to challenge themselves and broaden their exposure to academic research.
