Horizons Scholarship
Horizons Scholarships were established at the University of Alabama to promote study abroad participation among traditionally under-represented groups of students. Participants in traditional overseas study programs, overseas internships, or overseas service/learning programs are eligible to apply. In 2006-07, approximately 12 scholarships of $3,000-$5,000 will be awarded.
In selecting the Horizons Scholarship recipients, a primary eligibility criterion will be racial and ethnic self-identification. Other considerations include: financial need, first-generation college students, the relevance of the proposed study-abroad experience to academic and career goals, academic record, length of stay (preference to semester participants), year in school (preference to juniors and seniors), honors program membership, and other factors.
Students selected as Horizons Scholarship recipients will participate in pre-departure advising. Upon returning from overseas study, students will share their experiences with others through activities and publications of the Horizons Scholarship program.
Horizons Scholarships are made possible through the IFSA Foundation and are administered through the Capstone International Center and the Honors College. For questions concerning the scholarships, email Fran Oneal at foneal@bama.ua.edu or call 348-5554.
