The University of Alabama Honors College has appointed Dr. Jackson Harris to its faculty, effective Aug. 16.
Harris brings extensive experience in civic engagement, leadership development and interdisciplinary teaching to the Honors College. Throughout his career at The University of Alabama, he has held multiple positions within the Division of Community Affairs, the Crossroads Civic Engagement Center and the Civic Learning Lab, while also teaching in New College, the Department of Communication Studies and the Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program.
Harris has developed coursework focused on civic leadership, public listening and social innovation. His teaching and scholarship emphasize strengthening discourse, citizenship and democratic engagement, bringing expertise that will further enrich the Honors student experience.
“Dr. Jackson Harris brings an extraordinary combination of creativity, experience and deep commitment to student development,” said Tiffany Sippial, dean of The University of Alabama Honors College. “As a proud Honors alumnus who has served our community as a student, staff member and instructor, he understands both who we are and where we are headed. We are thrilled to welcome him home to Honors as a faculty colleague.”
As the Honors College continues expanding opportunities for students through Honors Forward, Harris will contribute to the College’s mission by helping prepare the next generation of thinkers, citizens and leaders through innovative teaching, mentorship and community-engaged learning.
