This course provides an overview of higher education and examines the organization and operations of colleges and universities in the United States. You will critically examine questions including: What is the purpose of higher education? Why does college cost so much? What is the influence of college athletics? Why do some faculty members get tenure? Why do you have to take classes unrelated to your major? How do institutions decide who gets scholarships? and many more.

If you have ever been curious about the background behind institutional decision making, are interested in higher education as a field of study, or just want to learn about how colleges operate, this course will help you examine how institutions function by exploring the main issues impacting higher education.
