This course examines how environmental issues ranging from food, energy, and population growth, and deforestation to climate change are represented through popular and documentary films. In particular, will we focus on how films form public policy and perceptions of environmental issues. Informed by film viewings, class readings, and discussions, each student will undertake a semester long research project exploring film’s relationship to an environmental issue of their choice. Students will have the option to produce short films as a part of their research projects.
