This course will explore how stories and storytelling connect people, create cultural understanding, and effect change. We will develop a vocabulary for discussing the relationships between narratives and social change and analyze written and oral narratives and the cultural and historical contexts that surround them. We will concentrate specifically on narratives of marginalized writers in American literature, various narrative forms of 20th century and modern American literature, and the Honors College 2019 Common Book, The Book of Unknown Americans.
