Sem: Shakespeare’s Plays

  • UH 300
  • Teacher: Paul Phelps
  • Term: spring 2020
  • Credits: 3

I am mostly interested in finding ways to appreciate how capacious, complex, human (and humane) Shakespeare’s plays are, so the course will concentrate on the plays themselves rather than on some variety of literary theory. My expectation is that the course will challenge your preconceptions about Shakespeare (and about literature in general), and equip you with some tools for reading and thinking that extend those tasks beyond the customary. Three papers, quizzes (maybe), and a final exam.
