Our lives are all impacted by Information Technology (IT) in one way or another. This course focuses on “the dark side” of IT. Not only will this course examine obviously relevant topics such as infrastructure security and magnetic media volatility, but it will cover topics that don’t get as much attention like social media persistence, global data warehousing, and societal impacts on privacy and safety. To take the theoretical discussions into a more practical application, students in this course will collaborate with a non-profit organization and provide an “IT improvements suggestion document”. The IT improvements suggestion document will serve as a starting point for the non-profit organization to be made aware of improvements that could strengthen the robustness of the overall IT framework.
