Janet Teer grew up in Northport, Alabama, and was educated in the Tuscaloosa County School System. She attended Judson College in Marion, AL, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1975 with a BA in History. She then attended the Law School at The University of Alabama, graduating in 1978. She was admitted to the Alabama State Bar that same year. After working for the State Farm Insurance company for 2 years in Huntsville, she returned to Tuscaloosa in 1980 to start the risk management program at the then Druid City Hospital. She remained there for 32 years, retiring from the DCH Health System in 2013 as General Counsel and Vice President of Legal Affairs. She has been an adjunct instructor at The University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences since 2004, and since her retirement she has been privileged to not only continue teaching for CHES, but for the Honors College as well. In the Honors College, she teaches The Law of Philanthropy.
