Alabama Action Abroad is a community service based travel abroad experience designed to teach students not only about the local culture and needs of different areas of South America, but also about leadership and teamwork. The program lasts approximately 10 days, and encompasses a wide variety of community service activities, cultural interaction and historical experiences. Led by amazing Outward Bound leaders, this trip is an unforgettable experience!
Costa Rica is the original Alabama Action Abroad trip. It started this amazing opportunity for students to travel abroad, while completing community service, and learning about the cultures and languages of South American countries. Fifteen students, with two faculty members, will visit the remote village in the Talamanca Province. Students will work together to support the local community. Projects include food distribution, sanding furniture, teaching English, building aqueducts, and any other contributions we can bring to the community. Students will also learn about native customs, language, food, and wildlife.
