The University of Alabama Honors College is proud to announce the addition of assistant professors Drs. John Latta and Tara Mock to the faculty.

Their expertise will amplify the transdisciplinary philosophy of the Honors College and enrich our community of scholars.

Dr. John Latta

Dr. John Latta continues in the Honors College as an assistant professor. He holds a doctoral degree from The University of Alabama, focusing on communication theory and rhetorical criticism. In the Honors College, he teaches “Thomas Paine: a revolutionary writer and his revolutions”; “Gossip and Rumor in the Age of Social Media”; advises the Honors College experimental print and online magazine, Mosaic and leads an education abroad program, UA Honors in New Zealand: One Really Awesome South Pacific Adventure.

Dr. Tara Mock, Assistant Professor

Dr. Tara Mock joins the Honors College as an assistant professor from Bowdoin College. She holds a doctoral degree from Michigan State University in African American and African Studies. Mock’s research and teaching interests include: Modern Africa; Diaspora; Identity and Community Formation; Cultural Political Economy; Slavery, Colonialism, and Globalization in Africa; Afro-Chinese Relations; and Nation Branding. Dr. Mock has a book to be released this year, “Manufacturing Sameness: Africa, China, and the strategic narrative of brotherhood.”
