The Honors College named Isabella Concannon the Honors College Student of the Month for October 2024.
Concannon, from Indianapolis, Indiana, is a senior majoring in Biochemistry and Classical Civilization. As an Honors student and Randall Research Scholar, Concannon has fully embraced her Honors College experience.
“The desire for a close-knit and motivating community was one of the main reasons I chose to apply to the Honors College and I am grateful to be able to say that it has been one of the most influential factors in my university experience! Not only did my experience living in an Honors dorm freshman year and the Honors College’s small class sizes help ease the transition to college so far from home, but it also formed the foundation of my university experience,” shared Concannon. “In my experience, the Honors College has supported me to pursue academic rigor, student involvement, and intellectual curiosity.”
Concannon has been deeply involved with interdisciplinary research as an undergraduate researcher at The University of Alabama, as well as serving as a clinic volunteer and intern researcher at Indiana University School of Medicine.
“I have had the amazing opportunity to contribute to a research laboratory under Dr. John Kim in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Working on a unique modeling method for the aggressive brain cancer glioblastoma multiforme, this project aims to improve translational research, and, eventually, patient prognosis,” stated Concannon. “RRSP has also allowed me to present my research findings at recruitment events, undergraduate research symposiums, and even national conferences. Now, as an OUR Research Ambassador, I am able to share my experience in research with other interested students and promote undergraduate research engagement across Alabama’s campus.”
When asked “Why Honors?” Concannon shared, “Overall, the Honors College has been the foundation of my University experience. Honors has made a large school feel small and supported me with a challenge to excellence. Without this involvement, I know I would not be as deeply connected to interdisciplinary research, committed to my education, or involved with my fellow student body. I am incredibly thankful for my Honors College experience and am continually encouraged by its academic support, incredible scholarly opportunities, and encouraging community.”
Congratulations to Isabella Concannon, our Honors College Student of the Month for October 2024!
