The Honors College is proud to announce Fallon Austin as the December 2024 Student of the Month. Austin is from Northport, Alabama and is a senior majoring in communications and is in the Blount Scholars Program.

Austin shared how the Blount Scholars Program caught her attention as a former high school writing consultant.

“I felt like I had found somewhere that could be a refuge for my creative side,” Austin explained, “and while that is what attracted me, the humor and wit from the very beginning of the application really pushed me to apply.”

Not only did the Blount Scholars Program inspire Austin’s creativity, but it also encouraged her academic and personal growth.

“The Blount Scholars Program pushed me academically,” Austin said, “but it pushed me even harder on a personal level to come out of my shell and embrace public speaking.”

Reflecting on her time at UA, Austin is grateful for the Blount Scholars Program for shaping her experience and future.

“Going into my senior year,” Austin said, “I am thankful to Blount for changing the trajectory of my college experience and my future. I’d love to say I had a better answer to why I chose the Honors College or Blount specifically, but the true answer is that it was never an option to be anything but Blount.”

The Blount Scholars Program is a selective, four-year, living and learning community at The University of Alabama featuring small, seminar-style classes, intensive interaction with faculty, and an integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum leading to a minor in Liberal Arts. Blount Scholars Program is open to students of any major.

Congratulations, Fallon Austin, our December 2024 Honors College Student of the Month!
