The Honors College is excited to name Nicholas Kaple as May’s Student of the Month. Kaple is majoring in mechanical engineering and is in the Randall Research Scholars Program. Kaple, who is from Orland Park, Ill., is actively involved with the Tuscaloosa Rocketry Challenge and serves as the Vice President of Alabama Rocketry Association. Kaple spoke to the impact the involvement has.
“…Honors programming like Tuscaloosa Rocketry Challenge is incredibly fulfilling,” Kaple said. “Having the chance to interact with local middle schoolers and share my passion for aerospace science is something I truly look forward to each year.”
Kaple is doing undergraduate research with Dr. Kasra Momeni on the additive manufacture of functionally graded alloys. Kaple reflected on how RRSP shaped his Honors experience.
“My membership in the Randall Research Scholars Program has opened my eyes to the vast world of academic research, which is a space that I think many students at UA unfortunately don’t have the chance or awareness to explore,” Kaple said. “RRSP has given me a strong appreciation for the huge economic impact that our university’s research activities have on the state of Alabama, and it has shown me a path towards graduate studies that I don’t think I would have otherwise pursued.”
Kaple also discussed how his Honors peers enhanced his Honors experience.
“The students at the Honors College are also world-class,” Kaple said. “It has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to interact with fellow students from all over the world and who share my love for learning for learning’s sake…I feel truly at home in the Honors College.”
Congratulations, Nicholas Kaple, for being named May’s Honors College Student of the Month!
