The Honors College is excited to name Alyssa Phelan as April’s Honors College Student of the Month. A political science major with a minor in international studies from Cincinnati, Phelan is a member of the University Honors Program graduating this May.
Phelan is passionate about being involved on campus and in the community. She is currently serving as a teaching assistant for Dr. Tara Mock’s sections of UH 401: The Capstone Experience and is vice president of Community Relations for Pi Beta Phi sorority. Phelan has also served as a Safe Sister for the Women & Gender Resource Center and volunteers weekly at Crestmont Elementary with the Reading Allies program. Phelan discussed the impact her involvement has had on her.
“Engaging with our campus and the vibrant Tuscaloosa community,” Phelan said, “I’ve had the privilege to work on projects with real impact, broadening my outlook to see things in terms of the world and society as a whole.”
To Phelan, Honors College faculty are more than educators. “The faculty within in the Honors College transcend the conventional role of educators; they are invaluable mentors who have made a profound impact on the person I have become over the past four years,” Phelan said.
In reflecting on her time at the University, she realized how transformative the Honors College experience was. “As I my time at UA comes to and end this May,” Phelan said, “I am grateful for the transformative experience provided by the Honors College and the opportunities it has afforded me to reach my fullest potential.”
Congratulations, Alyssa Phelan, on being named April’s Honors College Student of the Month!
