Honors Action

Honors Action is an exciting, week-long community engagement experience and course designed to provide Honors College freshmen with the opportunity to engage in meaningful community-based partnerships. Participants in the program arrive on campus before their peers and devote the last week of their summer to service projects in the Tuscaloosa area.

The 2024 program begins Sunday, August 11, 2024 and concludes Friday, August 16, 2024.

Participants will move into their residence halls prior to the beginning of Honors Action, as designated by the UA Office of Housing and Residential Communities. Move-In dates and instructions will be shared with admitted students in advance of the start of Honors Action.  Friday Move-In for Honors Action is tentatively set for Friday, Aug. 9, 2024.

Please note, there is a $225.00 course fee for Honors Action that is charged on student accounts when fall tuition and fees are billed. Admitted students must register for UH 103 for classes during Bama Bound Orientation in the summer. The duration of this course is over the course of the Honors Action program week.

What Will I Do?

Serve

The community engagement experience will take place at schools within Tuscaloosa County. At the schools, participants will complete a variety of service projects. Past projects have included painting, constructing benches and outdoor classrooms, and landscaping.

Learn

While each student will be assigned to a specific partnership and service project, all participants of Honors Action will engage in common programming with the entire group (i.e., daily lectures, small group discussion, meals, and evening activities). Students will also enroll in UH 103, a 1 credit hour course that will encompass the service and study of Action week.

Dates and Application

The Honors Action application is currently available and will remain open until May 1, 2024.

Application for Honors Action

Honors Action dates for Fall 2024 are Aug. 11 – 16, 2024.

Please note, there is a $225.00 course fee associated with Honors Action.

Honors Action takes place the first full week before the fall semester begins. These dates conflict with Panhellenic Recruitment and Million Dollar Band Programming. Unfortunately, incoming freshmen who participate in either Panhellenic Recruitment or Million Dollar Band Programming cannot also participate in Honors Action.

If accepted to an Honors Action program, students must attend one of the Bama Bound sessions offered in May, June or July. August Bama Bound sessions conflict with the Honors Action programs.
