The Honors College would like to congratulate Lena Barrido for being chosen as April’s Student of the Month.
Barrido is a Chemistry major on the STEM Path to the MBA from Brookfield, Illinois. Barrido is the current Honors College Assembly President, having been a member for four years. As President, some of her achievements include earning block seating for Honors students, winning UA Homecoming’s Tide Division, and hosting Honors College Formal for the first time since the pandemic.
In addition to HCA, Barrido is involved on campus and in the community. She is the UA EcoCAR Equity in Mobility Lead, Pi Beta Phi’s Vice President of Inclusion, a DCH Student Volunteer and a Reading Allies Mentor.
Barrido is also a member of honors societies such as Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa, Cardinal Key, Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Beta Kappa.
“Being a member of the Honors College has been pivotal to my college career,” Barrido said. “Coming to a university ten hours away, I desperately sought a community that could make a large campus feel small. Honors allowed me to forge friendships across campus, become a leader in my community, and give back to the University that has given so much to me.”
“After living in Ridgecrest South during my freshman year, I knew that the people I met would be my friends for life,” Barrido shared. “I love continuing to create connections within the Honors College community as President of the Honors College Assembly. Seeing students find their place on campus through the Honors College has been the most rewarding part of my time in HCA.”
“I am so thankful to have had this community of support and home away from home during my time as a student,” Barrido said. “My experience in the Honors College has made me the person I am, and I know even after my time at UA, the Honors community will be there cheering me on.”
Congratulations April 2024 Honors College Student of the Month, Lena Barrido!
