WUFP: Application Information

The Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program Application opens September 1, 2024 and is due 11:59 pm Central Time, December 8, 2024.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be automatically eligible to apply for the Witt University Fellows Program, a first-time entering Freshman admitted to The University of Alabama must have at least a 3.5 high school GPA and a minimum non-superscored ACT score of 32 or SAT score of 1420.

First-time entering Freshmen admitted to The University of Alabama not meeting these automatic eligibility requirements but with a non-superscored ACT score of at least 29 or SAT score of 1330 may apply with the endorsement of a high school representative or UA faculty member. These applicants may complete and submit a WUFP application, but it will only be considered for review after a follow-up form is completed by the endorsing representative. Endorsement forms must be completed by the application deadline of December 8, 2024.

All Witt Fellows must be accepted to the Honors College, so please complete and submit an Honors application prior to or concurrently with the WUFP application.

Selection Process

We expect over 1,500 students admitted to The University of Alabama this year to be eligible to apply for the Witt University Fellows Program. The competition will be very stiff. Because all those invited will have impressive grades and test scores, the WUFP selection committee will consider the candidate’s record of impact in their community, leadership achievements, extracurricular activities and the candidate’s essays as heavily as evidence of academic achievement. We seek students who ultimately will make a difference throughout their lives; therefore, creativity, productivity, community engagement, leadership and personal growth are points to highlight on your resume and in your essays.

Approximately 100 semifinalists will receive phone or Zoom interviews in late January 2025, after which approximately 50 finalists will be invited to the WUFP Finalist Interview Weekend February 28 to March 1, 2025.

Application Guidelines

To be considered, applications must be submitted online through the Qualtrics form by the deadline of 11:59 pm Central Time, December 8, 2024. We encourage submitting prior to the deadline in case you run into any technical issues during the submission portions.

Applicants must ensure their names and contact information are not included in the resume or essay portions of this application.

Although the application form is set up to save responses if visited repeatedly from the same device, the use of a private browser or other timeout issues may force the application to drop responses prior to submission. For this reason, we STRONGLY suggest that applicants collect the required materials in the application outline below and draft their responses in a separate program like Word or Google Docs prior to completing the application form on Qualtrics.

For your convenience and preparation, the WUFP provides the full text of its application when the application opens in September. Applications may only be submitted through the form that will be provided, but please use this application outline to draft your responses before entering them into the official application portal.
