Dr. Jair Lizarazo-Adarme joins UA Honors College faculty

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Honors College has announced that Dr. Jair Lizarazo-Adarme, known to many as “Dr. J.,” has joined its faculty, effective Aug. 16.

Lizarazo-Adarme has been with UA for nine years, most recently serving as research manager in the College of Engineering, where he supported research and teaching across all engineering disciplines. A native of Colombia, he earned his doctorate in chemical engineering from UA and his MBA from Oregon State University.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Jair Lizarazo-Adarme will be joining the Honors College family,” said Dean Tiffany Sippial. “I know he will be a fantastic addition to our team.”

During his tenure at UA, Lizarazo-Adarme has led modernization efforts in the Chemical Engineering Teaching Lab and developed multiple applications to streamline daily operations. Before returning to UA, he served as director of operations at the Microproducts Breakthrough Institute, jointly operated by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Oregon State University.

At PNNL, he received an R&D 100 Award for setting a world record in converting solar thermal energy into chemical energy. His expertise in microchannel technology spans thermodynamic simulations, catalysts, head and mass transfer, manufacturing costs, supercritical fluids, refrigeration and process control.

Lizarazo-Adarme is the past president of the UA Professional Staff Assembly and serves on the University Club’s Board of Governors.
