Lamar Named Interim Director of University Honors Program for Spring 2026

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Honors College has appointed Dr. Anne Franklin Lamar as interim director of the University Honors Program (UHP) for the Spring 2026 semester while current director Dr. Brad Tuggle is on sabbatical.

“Dr. Franklin brings exceptional leadership, deep dedication to our students and a wealth of experience to this role,” said Tiffany Sippial, dean of the Honors College. “Her commitment to academic excellence, student mentorship and innovative programming makes her the perfect choice to guide UHP through this transition.”

Lamar earned her bachelor’s degree from Mississippi University for Women and her master’s and doctorate from The University of Alabama. Her academic interests include women’s studies and storytelling, with a focus on non-traditional texts such as quilts, cookbooks and gardens.

In her role as interim director, Lamar will oversee academic programming, faculty collaboration and student engagement with UHP. She will work closely with campus partners to maintain the program’s mission of fostering scholarly achievement, creativity and leadership among students.
