Sasser named Interim Director of Capstone Experience for 2025-2026

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Honors College has appointed Dr. Tyler Sasser as interim director of Capstone Experience for the 2025-2026 academic year. He will serve in the role while Dr. Tara Mock is on fellowship.

Sasser is currently an assistant professor of Honors at UA, director of the study abroad program UA in Iceland: Vikings and Norse Mythology, and co-director of UA in Oxford: English, History and Honors. He taught in the Department of English from 2015 to 2021 before joining the Honors College faculty in 2022. He also serves as faculty adviser for Alabama’s Boxing Club and co-faculty adviser for the Will Nolan Film Club.

“Dr. Sasser is deeply committed to our students and takes a thoughtful, student-centered approach to teaching and mentoring,” said Tiffany Sippial, dean of the Honors College. “His experience developing engaging courses, supporting undergraduate research and contributing to program leadership make him an excellent fit for this important role.”

The Capstone Experience offers Honors students an opportunity to integrate their academic learning with research, creative projects or community engagement before graduation.  As interim director, Sasser will oversee the continued development and implementation of the Capstone Experience, the signature culminating opportunity for Honors students.
