Bama Bound

Welcome to The University of Alabama Honors College

We are excited to welcome you to The University of Alabama Honors College and to support you as you begin your academic journey during Bama Bound orientation!

To help you get started, we’ve provided a Curriculum Overview that outlines the academic requirements for students in the University Honors Program (UHP). This resource is designed to give you a clear understanding of your Honors coursework and how to stay on track for completion.

Please note that this overview applies specifically to students in the University Honors Program.

Students in partner programs including the Randall Research Scholars Program, Witt University Fellows Program, Achieve Scholars Program, Blount Scholars Program, McCollough Pre-Medical Scholars Program and the STEM/CREATE Path to MBA Program have different curriculum requirements and should follow the guidance provided by their specific program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I meet with an Honors College academic advisor at Bama Bound?

During Bama Bound, you will meet with an academic advisor from the college of your primary major to discuss course registration.

Honors College advisors do not conduct individual advising appointments during orientation; however, they will be available during the morning breakout sessions of College Visit 1 on Day 1 of your orientation session. These sessions are a great opportunity to learn more about the Honors College experience, ask questions about Honors requirements and opportunities and receive information specific to the University Honors Program curriculum.

What Honors courses should I register for at Bama Bound?

Incoming Honors students in the University Honors Program should plan to register for UH 100: Honors Year One – Honors Connections during Bama Bound. This course is designed to introduce first-year students to the Honors College experience.

You should also talk with your major advisor about enrolling in Honors sections of courses within your major and/or Honors versions of general education courses. These classes can help you begin making progress toward your Honors requirements!

Students participating in the Randall Research Scholars Program, Witt University Fellows Program, Achieve Scholars Program, Blount Scholars Program, McCollough Pre-Medical Scholars Program or the STEM/CREATE Path to MBA have first-semester or first-year requirements that are unique to their respective programs.  You should receive program-specific information regarding the courses you are expected to register for prior to attending Bama Bound. If you do not receive this information, please reach out directly to your program contact for guidance.

Where can I find an overview of Honors requirements?
What is the Honors Year One Requirement?

The Honors Year One requirement is designed to help new Honors students explore and establish their place within the Honors College, The University of Alabama, and the broader campus community.

All students in the University Honors Program (UHP) are required to complete an Honors Year One course — UH 100 (Fall) or UH 110 (Spring or Summer) — during their first year at UA and earn a grade of C or better to satisfy the requirement.

What if UH 100 is at capacity when I register at Bama Bound or I am unable to fit it into my first-semester schedule?

Don’t panic! If UH 100 is full during your Bama Bound registration session, additional seats may become available in August, so we encourage you to check your schedule again before classes begin.

If you are still unable to enroll in a section that works with your schedule, you can complete your Honors Year One requirement by taking UH 110 during the Spring or Summer 2027 term.

Is there early or priority registration for Honors students at Bama Bound?

No. All students register at the same time during Bama Bound, regardless of Honors status.

Will my AP/IB/CLEP credits earned count toward my Honors College requirements?

No. The Honors College does not allow AP/IB/CLEP or transfer work to count toward Honors College credit requirements.

How do I stay connected with the Honors College after Bama Bound?

You’ll receive weekly communication from the Honors College and can also stay involved through events, advising and engagement opportunities throughout the year.  It is imperative that you regularly check your Crimson email to ensure you don’t miss important updates, deadlines and opportunities from the Honors College and the university.
