The University of Alabama Honors College offers 10 distinctive Honors programs across numerous disciplines.

The Honors College is home to the University Honors Program, Randall Research Scholars Program (formerly Computer Based Honors), Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program (formerly University Fellows Experience), and the Achieve Scholars Program.

The Honors College is proud to partner with the College of Arts & Sciences through the Blount Scholars Program and McCollough Institute for Pre-Medical Scholars; the Culverhouse College of Business through the STEM Path to the MBA and CREATE Path to the MBA, the College of Engineering through the EPIC Scholars Program, and the College of Education through the Educational Studies Minor.

Honors Programs

University Honors Program

The University Honors Program serves to provide an academic experience that fulfills the Honors vision “to inspire students to connect with others as they become Critical and Creative Thinkers, Ethical and Empathetic Citizens and Collaborative and Inclusive Leaders within their chosen fields of study and beyond.”

Requirements:

3.5 High School GPA

In-state students:  30 ACT / 1360 SAT or

28 ACT / 1310 SAT and top five percent of their graduating class

Out-of-state students: 30 ACT / 1360 SAT

Randall Research Scholars Program

The Randall Research Scholars Program is a nationally-recognized undergraduate research program which pairs academically elite students with leading research professors and cutting edge computing technology to complete scholarly research projects in any field of study

Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program

The Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program prepares able and dedicated students for remarkable lives of leadership and service in their community, state, nation and world. Upon program completion, Witt Fellows earn a minor in Social Innovation and Leadership.

3.5 High School GPA

32 ACT / 1420 SAT

Achieve Scholars Program

The Achieve Scholars Program is a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to acquire an education in transdisciplinary research methodology. In doing so, students will learn how to apply such methods and become more effective scholars within their major field of study; will become proficient in the skills of uniting all fields of study which will help them to become creative thinkers and problem solvers; and will also gain the skills that are necessary for successful graduate studies, professional studies and future employment.

Requirements:

The Achieve Scholars Program is open to all students. It seeks to provide opportunities to and support for its program participants, including those participants from under-resourced communities. Applicants to the Achieve Scholars program must also be admitted into the Honors College.

College of Arts and Sciences

Blount Scholars Program

The Blount Scholars Program is a selective, four-year, living and learning community at The University of Alabama featuring small, seminar-style classes, intensive interaction with faculty, and an integrated, interdisciplinary curriculum leading to a minor in Liberal Arts. Blount Scholars Program is open to students of any major.

Requirements:

There are no required test scores or GPA for admission into the Blount Scholars Program.

Students can apply through the Blount Scholars Program application.

While not required, we welcome you to apply to the University Honors Program in addition to the Blount Scholars Program.

McCollough Institute for Pre-Medical Scholars

The McCollough Pre-Medical Institute prepares future medical leaders with unique, interdisciplinary studies in medicine to aid in development of the complex skills involved in the practice of medicine and offers a minor in interdisciplinary medical studies within a living-learning community.

In-state students: 30 ACT / 1360 SAT

Out-of-state students: 32 ACT / 1420 SAT

Culverhouse College of Business

STEM Path to the MBA

The STEM Path to the MBA allows high-achieving undergraduate students majoring in STEM disciplines to complete coursework to earn an MBA from the Manderson Graduate School of Business in only one calendar year beyond the completion of an undergraduate degree.

CREATE Path to the MBA

The CREATE Path to the MBA offers high-achieving undergraduate students majoring in traditionally creative disciplines the opportunity to complete coursework to earn an MBA from the Manderson Graduate School of Business in one calendar year beyond the completion of an undergraduate degree.

EPIC Scholars Program

The EPIC Scholars Program is a living-learning community and academic support program focused on the development of engineering and computer science student leaders who promote positive social change in their professions. EPIC students also earn a minor as part of their participation in the program.

The EPIC Scholars Program is no longer accepting applications.

College of Education

Educational Studies Minor

Embracing The University of Alabama’s mission to advance the intellectual and social condition of the people in the State, the minor in Educational Studies is designed as an option for Honors College students (1) to develop a knowledge base about education and schooling, (2) to learn classroom strategies related to teaching and learning, and (3) to act as informed advocates for the public and private school systems.
