The Honors College recently welcomed Mr. Alan Lazer, Dr. Tyler Sasser and Dr. Wade Langer to our team of faculty members.

Lazer earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama and an MFA in Writing for Screen and Television from the University of Southern California. His writing has received numerous recognitions, including, most recently, selection as a semifinalist in the 2020 WeScreenplay Shorts Contest. He has designed successful Blount and Honors seminars (including UH 311 Stanley Kubrick and Human Nature and UH 336 Filmmakers and Their Philosophies), building a strong record of teaching across disciplines.

Sasser is currently a senior instructor in the UA English Department, where he has received the Instructor Teaching Award and the Diversity Initiative Award. He earned a PhD from the University of Southern Mississippi and has published widely in the areas of childhood studies and early modern literature. Sasser is an experienced Honors educator, having taught both departmental honors courses and transdisciplinary honors seminars (including UH 312 Fear and the American Consciousness).

Langer received a BA in Religion from Birmingham-Southern College, an MDiv from Candler School of Theology at Emory University and a DMin from Asbury University. His dissertation was on Judeo-Christian Kingship through Final Fantasy XV, a video game. Langer has previously taught Honors Year One students and the popular Honors course UH 130 The Legacy of Kings: Judeo-Christian Kingship in Pop Culture.
