This 3-credit Honors writing course is a collaboration between the Honors College and the Cognitive Dynamics Foundation in Tuscaloosa. The purpose of the course is to improve the quality of life for person with Alzheimer’s disease and their families. Through art therapy and life story preservation, students learn about Alzheimer’s and person-centered care and the development of empathy for those with cognitive impairment. Students’ understanding of the art of storytelling and life story preservation are also enhanced and intergenerational relationship building through this novel service-learning model is promoted.
