This seminar is designed to provide an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills in mentoring elementary age children in literacy skills, motivation, and school success through reading aloud and book discussion. Reasons why some children have difficulty learning to read will be explored, as well as techniques and strategies for helping students develop a love for reading, and motivation to learn. Students taking this class will be paired with elementary aged children for mentoring. The issue of literacy, its definition and importance and how it impacts our lives will be explored.
