  • Term: spring 2020
  • Credits: 3

This course is designed as an introduction to the study of the influence of society and language on each other as well as on individuals. Throughout the course, we will explore the role of language in society and in our own personal development. We will pay particular attention to the influence learning an additional language has on us – before and during our experiences in other communities. That is, we will reflect on how acquiring another language may change us and impact our own identities. Additionally, we will further refine our understanding of culture and knowledge via our discussions. Throughout the semester we will strive to understand the impact of our varied linguistic experiences in other countries and communities on our own personal development and on society.
