The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program has selected a student from The University of Alabama as a Goldwater Scholar for 2022-2023. Jules Bates, a Randall Research Scholar and UA Honors College student from Pace, Florida, studying chemical engineering is the 60th UA student to receive the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship.

The University of Alabama will honor six students and three faculty members for their outstanding contributions to the Capstone. The Premier Awards honor students, faculty and staff who exemplify the highest standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character.

A University of Alabama student and alumnus were among 41 Americans selected to study in the United Kingdom through the prestigious Marshall Scholarship.
Jackson Foster, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Nathaniel Trost, of Tuscaloosa, bring the number of UA students and alumni to receive the award to five. The scholarship funds the opportunity for American students to pursue graduate studies at U.K. institutions.
